Greetings from the AIASCV Office:

As we bring 2015 to a close, I wanted to share with our members a recap of our accomplishments and also give you a sneak peek on what’s on our radar for 2016.

Year End Review

  • Webinars – created new online CEU learning opportunities
  • Two ADA seminars
  • Our first ever Silicon Valley Home Tours, A Tour By Architects
  • Women In Architecture – A new committee
  • Custom Residential Architects Network – A new committee
  • Brand new website with rich features including online Architect’s Directory and online Professional Affiliate Directory
  • Interactive, self managed online Career Center – Job and Resume posting
  • A stellar Emerging Professionals Committee with ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Tours, tours and more tours of Santa Clara County buildings, multi-family housing and private residences
  • Architecture 101 presentations given throughout Santa Clara County
  • Committee on the Environment Lunchbox Series
  • Resurrection of our student group at West Valley College
  • Provided a total of 45 CEU’s for our members, of which 35 were HSW credits

What we were hoping to accomplish was to not only advance our mission of “Promoting architecture and the built environment within the Chapter’s boundaries” but to increase the value of membership on a local level.  Members are busy, short on time but value the need to continue their own professional development and networking.  AIASCV provides these opportunities and does so with an eye on the future and what our members need to be successful, not only today, but in years to come.

Looking toward 2016

What’s on tap next year, you ask? We will kick off programming for our two new committees, Women in Architecture and the Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN).  If you have an interest in being involved in either of those groups, let me know and I’ll add you to their email distribution list.

Our Design Awards will be back in 2016. The AIASCV has recognized excellence in architectural design through its Design Awards competition and celebration since 1967. The awards gala acknowledges design excellence and creativity in projects that help people think bigger, live better, collaborate more, innovate further, or engage the world around them.  We are still looking for volunteers to help plan this spectacular event.  Our chair for this event is Brigitte Williams, AIA, of Steinberg.

Perhaps long past due, we plan on being much more collaborative in nature in 2016.  We will be more strategic in how can we expand our knowledge and influence by creating collaborative relationships with other organizations and related entities.

We also will play a more active role in developing our future generation of architects and design professionals.  Our incoming president, David Regester, will be spearheading activities to work more closely with the schools.

In short, we have a whole lot of cool stuff happening now and happening in 2016 and we want you to be a part of it.  Let me know what your interests are and, if you have some ideas on future programming, drop me an email.  Really, I want you to email me (or call me) and give me some of your great ideas!

AIA Santa Clara Valley is a family of design professionals looking to improve our community one building at a time. You can connect, share, and learn from like-minded design professionals by being active in your local AIA.  Check out our volunteer opportunities at http://aiascv.org/?page=JoinACommittee and I look forward to seeing you at an AIASCV event very soon.
