History & Mission
The American Institute of Architects (AIA), founded over 150 years ago is the largest and most influential professional association for architects, interns and those directly involved with the practice of architecture in the world. Based in Washington D.C, the AIA has nearly 300 state and local chapters representing over 80,000 members.
The American Institute of Architects, Santa Clara Valley Chapter (AIASCV) is a non-profit professional association serving over 600 member architects, associates and other industry professionals from over 145 firms. The Chapter, founded in 1950, is an action oriented, responsible organization, and one of the larger and more active chapters in the country, providing professional, social and legislative programs for it's membership, many of which are open to the public.
The American Institute of Architects is the voice of the Architectural profession dedicated to:
- serving its members
- advancing their value
- improving the quality of the built environment
The AIASCV serves our members, allied professionals, the community, clients/owners, public agencies, the construction community, our corporate partners, the education community and the friends of architecture.
We provide services through Developing Directorships and Committees for Member Services, Public Awareness, Advocacy, Professional Development and Mentorship of Young Professionals, that create and provide leadership, education, resources, advocacy and networking.
The AIASCV serves in order to advance our members and the profession, and enhance our community and the built environment.
THREE TIERED ORGANIZATION
The AIA is a three-tiered professional organization representing architects on the national, state and local level. AIA members - licensed architects, associates and interns - are assigned to chapters based on where they live or work. Each membership includes membership to all three levels.
